Quilting and Tractor Pulling???.....You Bet!!
Posted by administrator on Wednesday, July 7th, 2010
As most of you know Suzie is my first born and truly her Dad's and my pride and joy! She and I work side by side at the shops every day and are still the best of friends (most of the time!!) She recently got an 830 of her own and is enjoying it so much, all of us at the shops love to see what she will create next!
BUT DID YOU KNOW
That our son, Justin, (just 20 months younger than Suzie) is equally as talented and the apple of our other eye? He too has his own brand and that is International Harvester! He works with his Dad on our grain farm and over the past couple of years they have spent every spare minute building a pulling tractor - they tell us it is as much fun as quilting and sewing...
Recently I went to the Grand National Tractor Pull in Toma Wisconsin with husband Tom and son Justin. Well...any of you that know me at all know that while I LOVE to watch Justin with his tractor - sitting for four days watching on metal bleachers, loud motors, smoking stacks, pickups, hot rods and so forth from noon until 1 AM...........I might rather watch paint dry..................
SO, we rented a camper from our friends at Campsite RV in Cresco and I am set; they call me when Justin and friends are going to pull - I head to the tracks for the excitment and then pack to my little make shift sewing area, and so forth.
It just couldn't be any better...
In the evenings we cooked over a campfire and traded stories and then we all piled in to the camper to sleep, each morning Tom perked the coffee over the fire and treated us to eggs cooked perfectly over the campfire in a cast iron skillet! We just need a way to make the toast, any suggestions?
Her is my sewing area - I have my trusty 630 as Tom thought that packing up the 830 in the camper would be a bit much, however I am quite sure he would have let me if I made a little fuss, just between you and I though as I checked out the situation in my sewing booth the 830 would have really been a bit much!
It really worked out well, the back of the opposite booth for my strip sets, the area underneath the sew steady table for my patten and smaller pieces.
Peace and quiet...
Bernina 630 purring along cranking out piece after piece....
Air conditioning on an 85 degree day...
No deadlines...
Only an occasional cell phone call from the shops...
Refrigerator full of ice cold beverages....
Husband, Son and daugther-in-law, Ericka cooking two delcious meals a day for me...
Life is good!
This is my pressing area - not quite what we are used to but it worked!
I am using one of the new Steady Betty mats - it worked great - held the fabrics in place as I ironed part and then moved the fabric over to do the next part.
I was amazed that I would do full strip sets on this mighty little 16 x 16 inch square.
By the way it also kept my block pieces from flying away every time the door was opened in the camper!
As you can see - we really HAD to cook outside...
And here it is Coyote #1 - home for 5 of us for four days!
Can't wait to take it again...
